St. Clare School in Southwest Portland has welcomed Chris Harris as the school’s principal.

Harris, who started at St. Clare in July, is new to the St. Clare community but has a long history in Catholic education. He grew up in Tigard and attended St. Anthony School and La Salle Prep, then went on to receive degrees from Gonzaga University and St. Martin’s University in Washington.

The upcoming 2020-21 school year will mark Harris’ seventh as a Catholic school administrator. Most recently he served as principal of St. Agatha School in Southeast Portland. He previously spent nine years in Catholic education as a third grade teacher, technology coordinator, drama instructor and principal intern.

“My leadership style is to be mission driven — using the example Jesus sets for us to love one another and aspire to be our best selves,” said Harris.

“This year will undoubtedly be full of unique challenges and new ways of learning and connecting with our community,” read a press release from the school. “St. Clare staff and families are excited to have Mr. Harris at the helm, leading our school community with positivity, enthusiasm and a spirit of collaboration.”
