Before Oregon Gov. Kate Brown issued a statewide stay-at-home order March 23, two priests in Central Point went to extra effort to make sure people who wanted to go to confession had a chance. Fathers Fredy Bonilla Moreno and Stephen Kenyon used booths, panels and curtains to fashion two outside confessionals outside Shepherd of the Valley Church.

“There are so many creative ways parishes are continuing our Lord’s ministry,” said Deacon Kevin Welch, director of pastoral ministries for the Archdiocese of Portland. He is part of a task force at the archdiocese and is helping parishes respond to the new reality.

The archdiocese has set up a web page with resources on webinars, livestreaming Masses, blogging, e-newsletters and digital learning options.

“Things are changing rapidly, and I am so impressed with the dedication of our parishes to pivot,” Welch said.
