ALBANY — Members of St. Mary Parish here soon may find it remarkably simple to speedily email fellow parishioners with a prayer request, text them about an upcoming potluck or call to fill an open altar server slot.

Parish staff are compiling a new parish directory, and for the first time it will be online — via an app accessible on phones and computers.

“This way someone can call or email parishioners right away; their contact info is really right at their fingertips,” said Teresa Middlemiss, administrative assistant at St. Mary.

The online version allows parishioners to submit their own photos and include the information they choose. It also makes it convenient to add new parishioners or remove those who move away from the parish. Only registered members can access the directory.

The parish will help upload content for those who don’t feel comfortable with online technology, and it plans to print  a limited number of hard copies.

Middlemiss said other western Oregon parishes have used the app, called Instant Church Directory, and have given it high marks. “And I’m learning it from scratch and it’s easy to do,” she said.
