Like many Oregonians, La Salle Prep senior Mackenzie Greenslade was devastated when wildfires destroyed several communities and ravaged more than a million acres in Oregon.

“It’s pretty disheartening to see it being burned to the ground,” she said.

After witnessing how hard firefighters worked to save lives, homes and trees, Greenslade decided she wanted to show her support.

“The firefighters are working endlessly to put the fires out, and all I wanted to do was help,” she said. “Making a shirt was the first thing that came to mind.”

She pulled out her iPad and sketched out a few scenes: One features green trees under a sky red with fire and the words “Keep Oregon Green!” Another features yellow flames scattered on a green drawing of Oregon and the words “Prevent Wildfires!” The art, said Greenslade, “symbolizes the beauty of our state on fire.”
