BEAVERTON — Early last month, Valley Catholic kicked off the school year with an all-school Mass followed by a special presentation by Kyle Stanfield of the Oregon School Activities Association in honor of Valley Catholic’s fifth Oregonian Cup. The Oregonian Cup is awarded in recognition of excellence in academics, activities and athletics.

The Oregonian Cup is awarded by OSAA based on points, with Valley Catholic earning the most points for 4A schools.

“It's an honor for Valley Catholic to be recognized with the Oregonian Cup,” said John Matcovich, Valley Catholic president. This award embodies the hard work of all our students in the areas of athletics, activities, academics and sportsmanship, so it includes the entire student body. It's something we can all be proud of,” he said.

“Everyone contributed,” agreed Joel Sobotka, Valley Catholic athletic director and head boys basketball coach. “This award measures overall excellence and it encompasses the core values and mission of our campus of striving for excellence and living valiantly.”

In addition to the presentation of the Oregonian Cup at the all-school assembly, Valley Catholic High School celebrated the Oregonian Cup victory at halftime of their first home football game.
