Desolate, bare walls, and twisted, blackened debris! All that remain of the once beautiful St. Benedict’s Abbey and Mt. Angel College since the great fire of September 21, which has rendered homeless the Benedictines at Mt. Angel!

The institution which has been marked for the quiet atmosphere and beauty of solitude of the ancient monasteries of the old world now lies in ghastly ruins, and with its destruction the suspension of the college and seminary activities at Mt. Angel, which were only in their first bloom.
