A new tuition rate of $325, beginning in September, has been set for six Catholic high schools in the Portland area by the Greater Portland Area Catholic High School Principals Association.

The fee is an increase of $35 over the $290 tuition charged last year.

High schools at which the $325 tuition charge will take effect are Holy Child Academy, Central Catholic, La Salle, Marycrest, St. Mary’s Academy and St. Mary of the Valley. In announcing the principals’ action, Brother W. Thomas, FSC, principal of La Salle High School and chairman of Portland Area Catholic High School Principals, noted that tuition income covers only partially the per pupil costs at the schools.

A spokesman for Jesuit High School, which is not a member of the principals’ association, said the school will have an announcement on tuition next month. Tuition at the Jesuit school currently is $470 a year.
