Regarding “Pope: We need unity,” Jan. 22, Page 27:

On Jan. 10, Pope Francis called for unity in society and the Catholic Church in the United States. He made the plea five days after politicians secured control of the U.S. House, Senate and White House.

This single political party is advancing policies against the wishes of half of all Americans. Several policies are contrary to church teaching. We are not compelled to unite with these leaders any more than Jesus united with the money changers at the temple in Jerusalem. No. Like Jesus, we are called to resist.
