The Oregon Synod Committee was formed to respond to the invitation from Pope Francis for all to participate in the ongoing 2021-23 synod. It includes members from across the Archdiocese of Portland.
We support a Catholic Church with arms wide open. That means a church that welcomes and values everyone equally regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, ordination or marital status.
We support an evolution of ideas and practices so that the church reflects these respectful principles and welcomes the world into its fold. This means being open to roles for women that are the same as enjoyed by men; allowing every member to take Communion; and granting the privilege to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony to all members and priests.

Thank you for reading our letter. We are concerned about the man-made rules imposed on Church members based on their sex, sexual orientation, ordination and marital status. We think these rules unnecessarily hurt and alienate Church members and others and should be changed. We welcome others' support. Please contact us at ORESYNODCOMMITTEE@gmail.com.

I fully support Shelly’s comments. It’s time we bring our doctrine into the 21st Century in light of the sciences available.

This echoes Mt. 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are overburdened," or just misunderstood. Putting specifics on a universal invitation is challenging, to say the least. Jesus started by answering questions and reconciling repudiations. "I have given you an example..." (Jn. 13:15) We're called to follow, not just echo.

I agree with welcoming people with open arms. However, conforming to worldly views that are not in line with Catholic teaching is not the way to go about it. What that quote points out is how poorly catechized we are and the issue that has plagued the church since it’s inception - we want to pick and choose only the parts of our faith that we agree with - read John 6:35-68

The suggestions are heretical, plain and simple. Our Catechism is clear on all topics raised. I'm disappointed it was printed without respectful correction by this publication.

I'm interested to know what is in place or planned to foster greater involvement in the synod process throughout the archdiocese, and if the Oregon synod committee is involved/happening in cities/towns outside of the Portland metro area?

Wait a minute. Who is on this committee and who decided this statement is representative of the opinions of all Oregon Catholics? I don't agree with this at all and it is in opposition to Holy Scripture and tenets of the Catholic Church.
