Regarding “Guadalupe celebrations show vibrant faith,” Jan. 3, Page 1: This article covering the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Alexander Parish in Cornelius was a wonderful work. To be a priest now is to carry a cross, and Father David Schiferl at St. Alexander has carried his well during the quarter century I’ve known him. Father David believes human good consists of peace, harmony and tranquility. In his preaching he always calls attention to the existential dimensions of persons and their fulfillment.

What is also remarkable is that Father David does it all in both English and Spanish. He makes these points to two audiences: The deepest desire of the heart is always for union with God. Father David’s bilingual treasures have no doubt brought bountiful benignity to St. Alexander Parish and the wider church.
