Knowledge needed

How happily my Holy Names/Jesuit education comes to mind with that all-important Ignatian word, discernment. It speaks volumes because it assumes we can think for ourselves. However, my Dominican roots remind me the key to discernment is knowledge, veritas, if you will. How can we discern if we don't know, if truth is not available?

I also received a Jesuit education growing up. I think what's most important is to remember that God speaks to us in the silence through our hearts and our consciences, in what drives us to charity and goodness rather than the fear we're so inundated with on a daily basis. When you can, find somewhere quiet, close your eyes, and listen. He is in everything.
