The Right to Life is indeed at stake in our nation whether it’s infanticide, euthanasia, or the shooting of children. Yes, it is the cornerstone of Catholic social justice, Aquinas and all.

But it does not warrant the destruction or abandonment of the Bill of Rights which seeks to protect the rights of individuals against the excessive power of government and groups.

This nation — which espouses the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — protects those rights through the very Bill of Rights some seek to destroy. It’s very much like gothic cathedrals; eliminate the buttresses that hold up the structure and you invite the destruction of its very existence.
