Imagine, last year, your neighbor “Jane Doe” had an abortion of an 8-week old embryo. The embryonic tissues were used by a pharmaceutical company for medical research, including vaccines. Using that vaccine would be encouraging and benefiting from the abortion, right? It’s moral relativism to justify the use of anonymous abortions and decades of time for COVID vaccines that use aborted tissues in production or testing. Writing a letter protesting the use of aborted embryonic cells, then using the vaccine derived from them is plain hypocrisy. And it’s pure naiveté — labs have used human cells for more than 60 years and show no signs of stopping. We should examine our purchases and how they may support abortion. But, detracting from the immorality of the vaccine with that or other arguments does not inspire sacrifice for the innocent and has created confusion in the church.
