Regarding “Eulogies,” Nov. 1, Page D:

Should stories and remembrances about the dead be shared at Mass? Yes.

Our Catholic funeral Masses link the Paschal Mystery of Christ to our deaths and also seek the repose of souls.

Before the final blessing, after Mass has been said, it is appropriate and appreciated and comforting to hear a family member or friend speak of the deceased.

There is not always a vigil when this could occur. Viewing of the body is often by individuals at different times and not a group gathering where there is a set time to offer remembrances.

Funeral are an appropriate time to, as Romans 12:1 asks, show honor for the body.
