Thank you to the Catholic Sentinel and to all the Catholics in Portland for their support of immigrants and of the Catholic Day of Action for Immigrant Children. Since last October, Catholics have prayed every second Saturday at St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the children who are detained and suffering at the southern border. We gather saying the rosary and welcoming the stranger in solidarity with large Catholic gatherings in Washington, D.C., New Jersey and El Paso, Texas.

The Sentinel has announced and covered the local prayerful gatherings that have included people from parishes on the east and west sides of Portland, and has also covered many other immigrant-related events.

At February’s cathedral gathering we committed to pray and take action — writing letters, talking in our parishes, and using the #ShareJourney hashtag from Catholic News Service.
