Regarding “Majority deny Real Presence,” Aug. 16, Page 16:

It is a shame that so many Catholics are in denial when it comes to accepting and understanding the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ as the bread and wine through transubstantiation becomes his Body and Blood.

I am dismayed that the majority are in denial. But we should remember there are many people who, when asked, claim to be Catholic even if they are not practicing.

A perfect example is Rep. Jennifer Williamson of Portland, who claims her decisions are based on her Catholic faith (“A Capitol Faith,” June 21, Page 5). Really. If only we all had the courage to stand for our faith, the world would be a better place for all. Are we up to the challenge?
