Regarding “Is the free market aligned with Catholic teaching?” Dec. 3, Page 25:

Interesting headline considering our economic system is highly regulated. Free markets do not exist in any developed county. Yet, Matthew Eggemeier is very critical of such market systems. The reality of the last 100 years is that totalitarian economics and political systems resulted in poverty and death. Witness the Soviet Union, Maoist China, Khmer Rouge Cambodia and Castro Cuba. Here, I agree with Eggemeier when he is quoted saying, “We should resist ideologies that inflict harm on people.” While not perfect, the free enterprise economic system is better aligned with Catholic teaching than the alternatives.
