Regarding “Present in all,” March 19, Page 23:

The former president may not have the best character or the most sensible communication skills, but at least he recognized the right to life of the most vulnerable people in our nation — the unborn.

This issue, and the redefinition of marriage, are not just litmus tests. They directly affect our religious liberties, including how our Catholic institutions will be allowed to do their work, or not. If our religious institutions will not offer abortion, they will say we are invading a woman’s privacy. If our churches will not bless gay weddings, they will say we are bigots. No matter that we are the people of faith and science. We may tolerate the “choices” of secular institutions but they will not tolerate us.

We can show them a better way, but they don’t want to hear about it.
