An armistice is not a truce or a peace treaty, nor is it a celebration of military service or heroism. An armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop armed conflict. Armistice is a modus vivendi, a way of living. An armistice is the final thing Jesus asked for at the Garden of Gethsemane, “Put your sword back in its sheath, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword” (Mt 26:52).
