At our November meeting, we discussed the importance of Pope Francis’s encyclical “Laudato Si’,” which was published in June of 2015. Over the last four years, we have attended educational sessions on this encyclical.

But we seldom hear about the seriousness of the climate crisis from the pulpit. We are especially interested in those challenges currently experienced in our archdiocese. For example, we have come to realize that the climate change we are experiencing has major implications for those in western Oregon who are poor and food insecure.

How do we best respond to this challenge, and acknowledge the preferential option for the poor in Catholic social teaching?
