The rite of consecration of a virgin will go ahead May 24 as part of a weekly 11 a.m. livestreamed Sunday Mass from St. Mary Cathedral in Portland. Miriam Marston, 38-year-old coordinator of lay ministry formation for the Archdiocese of Portland, will be consecrated to God in an ancient ceremony with Archbishop Alexander Sample presiding.

Marston, also a singer-songwriter, will wear a white dress, receive a ring and stand before the altar. She joins about 250 women in the United States, including four others in Oregon, who have embraced the life.

A graduate of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia, she has a regular show on Portland’s Mater Dei Radio.
