Regarding “In the thick of it,” Sept. 18, Page 1:

Thank you for the story of Portland police Lt. Jake Jensen, a 1999 graduate of Central Catholic High School. His dedication to the profession is commendable. It’s a shame he must endure the hatred of rioters and their supporters. This story reminds us that law enforcement officers are our classmates and our neighbors. The vast majority serve with honor. I know this from personal experience as my 1974 graduating class of Central Catholic included officers Mark, Tom, Tim, Harry and others. Our police officers don’t deserve verbal and physical abuse; they deserve our thanks.
