ASTON, Penn. — Franciscan Sister Mary Carmel Molloy (formerly Sister Carmelette), 81, died in Assisi House Oct. 11, 2021. Services will be held in Assisi House Oct. 19.

She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 59 years. Sister Carmel was born in Galway, Ireland, where she was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Mallow and a graduate of Presentation High School. She entered the congregation in 1959 and professed her first vows in 1962. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Marylhurst University, a master’s in secondary education/administration from Portland State University, and a master’s in theological studies from Chicago Theological Union. She ministered primarily in education and social work.

She taught in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, and San Diego and Riverside, California. She served as assistant principal at LaSalle High School in Milwaukie and as a teacher at Central Catholic High School in Portland.

Sister Carmel ministered in Antigua, Galway, Ireland; Ridgely, Maryland; the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Utica, New York. She moved to Assisi House in 2021.

Sister Molloy is survived by two brothers, Patrick and Nicholas, many nieces and nephews, and by her Franciscan family.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
